Matsushima

It wasn't like an autumn weather - quite warm and sunny.I took a friend from Osaka to Matsushima for the day.Walking in Ojima was relaxing and I enjoyed it very much.Ojima is a small Island in Matsushima and it's a walking distance from the railway station.

Aizu trip

A friend of mine from Osaka came to visit me last weekend,and we went on a day trip to Aizu-Wakamatsu by car.

The city itself isn't very big,but there're lots to see and to do! One day wasn't enough to see all the sights...we couldn't go to see the castle.

A picture on the left shows a very famous former temple in Aizu,called Sazaedo,built in 1796.Very interesting architecture.

My friends from Sakata came to Sendai on 30th Dec.
We went to see the illuminations on Johzenji street,and then had dinner at Yakiniku restaurant 'Rose Garden'.
Yakiniku is like Japanese BBQ.

Me and my friend went to Morioka for the day.
We visited the museum first and enjoyed the Rouault exhibition.Then went back to the city centre and bought some bread at the Germany bakery.The bread was fantastic!

The trees at Iwate Park were very very beautiful.We just couldn't stop taking photos!

A day in Yamagama

Today I went there with a friend,and had a really nice coffee with a piece of cheese cake.My friend had just came back from her holiday in Thailand,and I listened to all the story what she had experienced.It was a good evening.

-The Night of the Hunter (1955)- it's a very scary film,but the story is a bit like fantasy and religious.

-Fahrenheit　451(1966)- it's an unbelievable society that books are banned in this film.
the film made me think a lot,but also it was interesting to see how Francois Truffaut had imagined the further future 40 years ago.

-The Man without a past(2003)-made by Aki Kaurismaki,a famous finnish director.the story goes on slowly and quietly.the people don't talk much in the film,but some of the scenes are very fuuny,not obvious though.　

-Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory(1971)- My all time favourite. weired,but fantastic.

-Ghost world(2001)/Trees Lounge(1996)- I like Steve Buscemi!!!!

Today I went to Cafe Enishi for the first time with a friend and we had Mango Lassy,that was delicious!!! We had a chat with the owner of the cafe,and enjoyed it very much. The cafe is combined with an antique faniture shop,which is also interesting ,too.

Tanabata festival in Sendai

Sendai Tanabata Festival has started,and it's been very very hot this weekend! As I have worked this Saturday,I only went to see the festival with a friend in the evening.There are a lot of beautiful Tanabata ornaments on the streets,which are made by papers.But also there are so many people everywhere,we could hardly move!! We escaped from the crowds,and saw some people were playing Jazz music at a small space near the railway station.We stopped there for a while,and enjoyed beers & music.

It was a hot and humid afternoon,I went to Rinno-ji(Rinno temple) with some friends.Do you remember I visited the temple once last winter? The scenery was completely different from winter,and everything looks bright and colourful.We could see many beautiful flowers and enjoyed walking round.

Went to Hanami with some friends after work.Hanami is a special spring event for Japanese people...looking at beautiful cherry blossoms and enjoy drink & food under the trees.There are many cherry trees in the park,and lots of people were having Hanami parties.I don't think they are looking at the trees though! There's a baseball studiam near the park,and it is mainly used for our local baseball team,'The Rakuten Golden Eagles'. I saw an interesting advert there..it is said 'Let me rooF for Eagles' What a Japanese-engrish it is!

Spring has come.I have been busy with lots of Enkai at work these days,some people left and some new people came in - it always happens everywhere this time of year in Japan.Also I leave the company at the end of this month,so there're only 10days left! After that I'll be free again for a while and go on to fantastic holidays.I'll have to start working again in July though..

A friend of mine from Yamagata came to Sendai for the weekend with her friends.All of them are JET teachers,and are very interesting people!! On the first day,we had dinner at a Gyutan restaurant(Sendai is famous for its Gyutan...beef tongue!).Unfortunately my friend,Monique didn't like it,so that she only had a few glass of wine and salad! After that we headed to the Irish pub and had some drinks.We then went to 'shaft',and had more drinks.Although I don't really like dancing,I enjoyed watching Monique and Nicole's dance!! They amused us a lot.
The next day we went to 'Rinnoji Temple' in Kita Sendai.The temple has a beautiful garden,and we enjoyed walking round.There is a dog at the temple,and he is VERY big! We thought he could be a lion...but he is too quiet and lovely to be that! After seeing the temple,we went back to the city centre and did more shopping.It was a busy weekend,but I had a really good time with them,and I hope I will visit Monique in Sakata next time!

A friend of mine from England was visiting me in Sendai this weekend.We've done lots of tourist things together! We got on a sightseeing bus and visited many places.Although the weather wasn't very good,we enjoyed looking round the city.She enjoys everything whatever she experience in Japan.For example,Japanese foods,she even had Natto!!!

I have finally received the result of my TOEIC exam(Test of English for International Communication),which I took last month. It was the second time for me,and it's been nearly a year since the last time I take. I don't tell you my score on this blog,but this time is exactly the same as the last time. I am relieved that my english seems still OK(I mean mainly listening),even though I don't study and use english regularly,but at the same time I feel that it wouldn't have been worth taking if it's the same result!
Apart from that,nothing hasn't been happened to me these days.It's snowing again now.And yesterday was snowing,too.And the day before yesterday was snowing...no more snows,please!

I went to see the Chinese folk arts exhibition at the Miyagi Museum of Art today,and I was very impressed by all the textile collections made by Chinese minorities in the south of China.Each minority has a different taste of colour,which is a kind of symbol for thier characteristic.Some minorities prefer to use very bright colour,and do very very beautiful delicate embroidery.There are some pictures of minorities beside the collections and they look really interesting to me!

I was listening to a radio programme on BBC Radio while I was having dinner today,and there's an interview of Christopher Smith,who has currently directed a film called ' CREEP',and is a former Bristol University student(!!). This is filmed in London Underground,and the story is horror,and sounds creepy and gloomy. The main actor is Franka Potente,who played in the German film called 'Run Lola Run'(it was a great film,by the way!).
I'd like to watch it if I have a chance.And I'm interested in the film score,too.Because it's played by a Bristol band called The Insects! I don't know when I can see it in Japan,though...

A friend of mine in England sent me a CD and some leaflets about new films.Thanks for him.I enjoy them all.He wrapped up the CD by the article from the magazine,which features on Judee Sill.It says that she could have been the most famous singer - songwriter of the Seventies.I didn't know anything about her,but I sense that she might have died by an unfortunate accident or something.I then looked into the information about her by internet,and found that she was dead by drug.Her life sounds tragic,but her songs sounds beautiful.I'd like to get her CDs and listen to it more.

I've happened to know that the Van Gogh exhibition is coming to Tokyo in this Spring.The exhibition will be held at the National Museum of Modern Art,which is very close to the Royal Palace.All the collections are from The Gogh Museum and The Kroller Muller Museum in The Netherlands.It should be great,and I must go to see it some time this Spring.
Yesterday I didn't go anywhere,because of the snows! I did nothing! How lazy I am.I know I should have studied a little for my exam which is coming next Sunday.I don't know how I will be able to manage for it...

I went to a Sushi restaurant with some friends in the evening.I hadn't been there before,but it's now one of my favourites! We ordered a course menu,which costs 2200yen per person(about 11pounds).We had about 10 different kinds of Sushi which were beautifully served,and the taste was just excellent.I must go back there again!

I've just started reading a book of Anthony Kiedis who is the vocalist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.It seems interesting,and not too difficult,but it is quite a thick book!(460 pages!) I don't know how much I can understand it,but I think it's important for me to read something in english now.Otherwise,I seldom use my english! Anyway,let me try and see how much I can read it..

It's snowing now in Sendai.We haven't had much snows recent years( I don't know how it was the past 2 years though!) ,but it's been pretty cold this 2weeks.Today I am going home to spend my new year holiday with my family.Hope all of you have a wonderful new year 2005!!!
